Beautiful property! I loved our stay here in the Alfama neighborhood. The beds were so comfy. The AC very nice. Has an elevator and the breakfast was perfect. It’s a bit of a walk up hill but you can grab a taxi if you need to. But lovely stay. It’s actually above the entrance to the castle. Great to spend the evenings there watching the sunset from the castle outdoor cafe. Also so close to the 28 tram line and Saint Antonino church and a pastel bakery with the same name (Sant Antonino) - the best! Grab one on the walk down the hill.

Breakfast was great, lots to choose from. Location was excellent, very high, but nice and quiet once you get there apart from the the Peacocks, but they live there lol. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The Hotel it self is very pretty and well kept. Would recommend.

This is a gorgeous hotel next to the castle. The breakfast room/loungeroom and outdoor areas are beautiful. Loved watching the many peacocks wandering around. The breakfast was adequate and available all morning so you can have a good sleep in 😴 The evening drinks, bubbly supplied by the hotel, are a great idea. Definitely go to this! We met lots of lovely people and exchanged contact details. There are plenty of shops and restaurants in the neighbourhood. Lisbon isn't easy to walk with the hills so make sure you find where the elevators are and use them... brilliant idea. Great hotel and love the city!

Gorgeous hotel in the heart of the castle grounds. Molton Brown toiletries (so I needn't have brought my own!), Gorgeous peacocks wandering the courtyard, clean and comfortable bed, warm white lighting throughout, evening drinks organised by the hotel, and just a calming place all round.

We loved the Solar do Castelo! Our room was comfortable, the staff incredibly helpful and we enjoyed the tranquility of the hotel despite its being in the thick of the castle traffic. The little touches were wonderful including an amazing breakfast, champagne each night, tea and coffee all day, and high end soaps and lotions. The roaming castle peacocks were entertaining too.

The hotel, Solar do Castelo - Lisbon hotel, Rua das Cozinhas 2, 1100-181 Lisboa, Portugal - is superbly situated in the castle grounds, with a lovey comfortable bedroom, downstairs there is a lounge with tea/coffee and cakes available all day, breakfast is amazing choice of traditional bacon, sausages, eggs etc cold continental meats and cheeses, smoked salmon and sardines, cereals of all types, cakes, croissants, different kinds of bread, fruit, plus if you wanted it (we didn’t!) sparkling Portuguese wine for a Buck’s Fizz! Then for a sundowner at 6pm they bring out a lovely Portuguese sparkling wine which you can help yourself to plus mixed nuts by the bowlful. And, there is also a complimentary decanter of port in the bedroom which gets topped up every day! Peacocks and peahens are everywhere, in the hotel garden, in the castle grounds and wandering around in the streets, there are lots, and lots of them all making really loud crowing noises, quite beautiful to look at but quite noisy.

The property is close to a lot of viewpoints and obviously the castle, so you can easily reach a lot of touristic spots. The hotel offers a great breakfast and they also offer coffee/tea along with pastel de nata and other cakes throughout the entire day. In the evenings, they also have sparkling wine available for free in the dining area. At the beginning of our stay we received a bottle of wine in the room. I haven’t seen such a generous food offer from other hotels. The inner garden has 7-10 peacocks around and they make for an exotic experience. The staff was helpful and paid attention to my upcoming birthday and surprised me with a bottle of sparkling wine. The room was clean but relatively small and the bathroom was well sized and included a bath tub.

It was a lovely old building beautifully furnished in a quiet location at the top of a steep cobbled hill next to the famous castle. The staff were friendly and helpful and every small detail thought through. Complimentary sparkling wine in the evening for everyone and hot drinks and snacks available all day. Excellent breakfast with a big choice of fresh fruit, cheeses, pastries , bacon and eggs etc.it was my birthday while we stayed there and the staff must have noticed this on my ID and we found a bottle of sparkling wine on ice when we returned to our room after dinner. One of the nicest hotels we’ve ever stayed in. The peacocks made it too!

Very beautiful throughout. The public areas were comfortable and spacious. The garden was lovely, and the peacocks were wonderful. Breakfast was excellent with a wide selection of foods offered. Also the extended time was very convenient. Refreshments throughout the day, coffee tea and little snacks were a welcome addition. The staff was extremely helpful arranging taxis and providing information about the local area.

Wonderful, small historic boutique hotel. Great location at the very top of the old charming, Alfama neighborhood with its windy cobblestone streets, just outside the castle walls of Castelo de Sao Jorge. The hotel is tastefully decorated. Rooms are varied, but the highest floor ones have beautiful, exposed wood ceilings with nice partial views of the castle and river. Great air conditioning. Some rooms have showers only. Charming private courtyard to enjoy very good buffet breakfasts. I enjoyed the complementary Port wine in the room, free champagne in the eves, and cool or hot drinks, snacks, and pastries available all day. Rooms also featured robes and slippers. I especially loved the birds... Peacocks from the castle next door coo and strut the grounds. Swallows dart around at dawn and dusk. Helpful, friendly staff. As a single traveler, I was treated very well. Highly recommend. Notes: Do not drive here. Take a taxi. Uber can not come all the way to the hotel, but taxis can. From the airport, taxi is about $20 - hotel can arrange a taxi for you and might even include one-way fare in some rates. Given the location at the very top of the Alfama plus Lisbon's many hills, if you are going to walk to/from here to downtown Baixa area for sightseeing, make sure to ask for locations of the Alfama neighborhood elevators. They save many steps and make it much easier to walk from downtown back up to the Alfama. Also, make sure to visit the Castelo de Sao Jorge next door. It's views of the entire city are spectacular! Buy tickets online to bypass the lines.
